AILG Launches Climate Learning Program in partnership with UCC

Date: 10 Dec 2021

The Association of Irish Local Government has launched the Certificate in Continuing Professional Development in Climate Crisis and Local Government in partnership with the University College Cork (UCC). This level 7 certificate has been designed specifically for county councillors and administrative staff in local government in Ireland. It will cover up to date policies and initiatives such as the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act and the Climate Action Plan, amongst other topical climate issues.

To progress on the CARO training currently being rolled out in all local authorities, the purpose of the program is to provide a unique opportunity for council stakeholders to upgrade and upskill their professional & academic qualifications. This enriching course aims to inform, challenge and empower Councillors to confidently navigate their increasingly important role in addressing climate change at a local level.

The course is limited to 25 participants and is only open to Local Authority Elected Members.  Students will undertake their studies between January and May 2022. The application closing date is January 7th 2022.

Elected Members can find full details on the application process via the course flyer containing weblink to apply HERE.
