Climate Action Training for Local Authority Outdoor Staff to Commence

Date: 18 Jan 2023

The Local Authority Climate Action Training Programme will commence the roll out of the ‘Delivering Action’ module for all Local Authority outdoor staff across the functional areas of Roads, Environment, Water and Housing in Q1 2023.

The County and City Managers Association (CCMA) endorsed a Local Authority Climate Action Training Plan which calls for “the development of Local Authority climate action leadership and capacities” and Delivering Action is part of this plan.

The 5 Regional Training Centres will be coordinating the roll out of this training programme with local authority Training Officers/Learning & Development Departments, and will be delivered within the geographical area of each local authority.

This is a 2-hour module, and the focus of the training is to gain knowledge about climate change and the role of the Local Authority in responding to the impacts of climate change.

This training will support Local Authority outdoor staff to:
  • Increase the participants understanding and awareness of climate change and what it means for Ireland and local community levels.
  • Raise awareness of international, national and local climate action and supporting policies.
  • Develop an understanding of the actions being taken by Local Authorities across the country to tackle the threats posed by climate change, declining water quality and biodiversity loss.
  • Build capacity to develop and implement local climate action measures in their work and communities.

Delivering Action is designed and developed by the following partners
