Línte na Farraige launch the first light installation in Galway City

Date: 29 Sep 2022

Deputy Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Mike Cubbard launches the Spanish Arch site which is the first of four LED light installations across the country.

Translating as “Line of the Sea”, Línte na Farraige is a collaborative project that highlights the issues of rising sea levels due to climate change.

The LED light installations will be located at the Spanish Arch, Ard Bia and the Claddagh Basin. The installations are comprised of illuminated horizontal lines, based on predictions of future sea level rise from international benchmarks, that represent future sea level and storm surges. The installations at Spanish Arch and Ard Bia will be in place for 6 months, and Claddagh Basin will be in place for 4 days.

Línte na Farraige is a collaborative project, which includes scientists, local authorities, Climate Action Regional Offices, Algorithm, Native Events, and is supported by Creative Ireland as part of their Creative Climate Action fund.
