Event to highlight and bring together Mayo people around the world working to protect our planet
Home to Mayo 2022 is part of the Global Irish Festival Series which is a joint initiative between Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs. Mayo is a county with a long-standing diaspora connection, and there are over 3.5 million people worldwide who claim Mayo heritage.
Mayo Couynty Council in partnership with the The Mary Robinson Centre are hosting a hybrid event to bring together Mayo people from around the world who are working to protect our planet.
The event will take place in Ballina Arts Centre and will showcase Mayo people at home and abroad who are leading climate action at a local and global scale, and those involved in research, innovation and in developing solutions for the climate and biodiversity crisis.
The event includes a host of guest speakers such as Mark Mellett, Vice Admiral (Rtd) and Principal of Green Compass, Barry Dixon, Head of Decarbonising Finance - Davy Group, Dr. David Connolly, former CEO of Wind Energy Ireland, Celine Reilly, Director of Vita International and former Executive Manager at Dublin City Council, Sean Carolan of Mulranny Decarbonising Community and Kevin Loftus of Accelerating Change Together, with additional speakers to be confirmed.

There will be opportunities to highlight the climate action work being undertakeing and planned and to be a first step in creating a network of Mayo Changemakers that can harness the potential of Mayo's glob al diaspora to connect and collaborate on climate action.
Announcing the event, Susan Heffernan, project manager at the Mary Robinson Centre, said: “This event will start an important conversation with Mayo’s diaspora in the spirit of Home to Mayo. Inviting our Mayo Changemakers home to meet, network and to explore the possibilities for collaboration and knowledge sharing in facing the climate crisis is an exciting proposition for the Mary Robinson Centre and will make for an inspiring event.”
Mayo people from around the world are also invited to send in a two minute video of their work (community and/or professional) in protecting the planet to be shared as part of the event.
The event is open to those engaged in climate and biodiversity and those interested in learning more.
