About the Farming Renewable Energy Summit 2021
Over 10% of total renewable energy production in the EU is produced on farms with this figure expected to grow dramatically in the coming years. Indeed, it is anticipated that the farm of the future won’t just be a source of food but also of renewable energy and fuel. The main drivers of this in Ireland are the Government’s commitment through the Climate Action Plan to producing 70% of our energy from renewables and the agricultural sector’s drive to come closer to Net Zero.

This growth in on-farm renewables is further fuelled by EU and government policies and support schemes, increased demand for biomass, the fall in the cost of technologies such as wind and photo voltaic solar, advancements in battery storage technology, the prospect of attractive returns on investment, and as a means for land owners to diversify their income sources to help shield against the impact of price volatility in traditional agricultural activities.
Now, whilst all this may be exciting, it does mean entering a whole new world for many in the agricultural and energy sectors… and indeed the companies who would like to do business with them. As a business, you will want to understand your market, their needs and concerns and the questions they need answered if they are to consider becoming an energy farmAs a farmer / land owner, it is a world you are probably not familiar with, a world in which you may need help to navigate; help on understanding all the renewable options available; the investment, work and time needed; available finance and support schemes; return on investment potential and time frames; legislation, regulatory and planning issues and more..
It is against this backdrop that Agri Insider in association with Business Post and iQuest is delighted to stage the inaugural Farming Renewable Energy Summit. Held virtually, the summit will bring together all the major stake-holders in the renewable energy eco-system in a spirit of open and frank discussion to get to know each other, talk, educate, inform and hopefully ultimately do business. If you are considering diversifying your farming enterprise into renewable energy, would like to talk to landowners about their renewable energy options, or if you service these sectors, this really is an event not to be missed.
